DANIEL BIRO

Merging jazz, rock and classical roots it comes as no surprise that the music of Daniel Biro sounds so distinctive. Of Hungarian descent, Biro spent his first years in Rome, grew up in France and has been living and working in London (UK) since 1985. During his keyboard studies at the Jazz Conservatory of Monaco and Nice University (France) he put together a series of experimental bands and wrote the music for several theatrical productions. This resulted in an early use of electronic instruments and an interest in visual performance which is reflected in all his work.

In 1992 he co-founded LUST, an organisation promoting collaborative multi-arts performance events, with choreographer Jane Turner and poet K.M. Pennhaligon. He has scored numerous short films and his three CDs 'Soho Square', 'The Comparative Anatomy of Angels' and 'Elegant Enigmas' were critically acclaimed both in the UK and abroad.

Recently, Biro has focussed on exploring the sonic capabilities of the Fender Rhodes electric piano in improvisational/experimental contexts. His latest works are also concerned with the parallels between music composition, recent scientific theories like Chaos and Complexity, Emergence, and Judaic spirituality.
